A Fishy Tale
Monday the 8th of March is the day many parents have been looking forward to with children returning to school. Hopefully this will pave the way to reducing lockdown measures and give us all a glimmer of hope that we can get back to some sort of normality.
Over the past 6 weeks we having been watching Cornwall: This Fishing Life. Although I originate from Cornwall I didn't fully understand the predicament and impact that Brexit has had. The hope was for the industry to have a resurgence and be able to fish our own waters with no interference from our European neighbours within a 12 mile boundary of our coastline, double the current limit of 6 miles. This would have allowed our own boats to catch our own fish and boost the local economy of the struggling fishing ports around the UK. The outcome is potentially catastrophic and the programme is well worth a watch.
With this in mind I spoke to our Fishmonger this morning about how we can promote UK fishing. He is going to provide regular updates of what is available from our fisheries as it can be very seasonal due to sea temperatures and weather conditions for fishing boats. We are going to extend the range of fish we offer to reflect this but please be aware that some species may be subject to availability. A refund will be provided if we cannot catch/source certain species as it is very much a fresh caught market and availability is literally what has been caught that day.
Uk fish available at the moment is Salmon, Monkfish, Hake, Trout (river), Dover Sole, Plaice, Cod, Crabs, Scallops, Langoustine and in 2 weeks time Mackerel. Other deep cold water fish on our website tends to be Norwegian at the moment but we are making every effort to buy British when we can.
To support and promote this we are offering a 10% discount on all fresh fish for orders placed before lunchtime on Wednesday 10th March.
Just a quick reminder for cut off times for placing orders. We have to change the next available delivery day at 12pm every day so that we can place our orders with our suppliers so that we can keep everything as fresh as possible. I have now added a calendar at checkout so that you can pick your preferred delivery day.
Deadlines are as follows
Friday for Tuesday delivery
Monday for Wednesday delivery
Tuesday for Thursday delivery
Wednesday for Friday delivery
Once again thank you for your continued support and to all the parents of school children - good luck for next week
