Operations Support Manager - Term Time Only
Ashlyns works in partnership with its schools throughout Hackney, East London and Essex, offering a meals service which is imaginative and nutritious.
Working under the direction of the Operations Manager(s) you will help fulfil the contract terms in terms of financial, food, ethical and quality standards and assist in monitoring KPIs including food spend, labour spend and meal uptake and work to address variances. You will ensure that policies and procedures with regard to health, safety and hygiene are understood by all kitchen staff and adhered to at all times.
You will induct, train, support and monitor the catering teams and, on occasion, provide short term /immediate cover for catering staff in the event of absence. You will ensure all documentation for HR (including the Right to Work in the UK and DBS checks), is complete and ensure all personal information is handled confidentially and securely.
From time to time, you will assist in food preparation for special events, e.g. taster sessions, which may be outside normal hours.
You will be confident and aspirational in your cooking and aside from your sound craft skills, you will be able to demonstrate skills in management, budget control, service improvement, customer relations and marketing. In brief, you will have:
a solid background in catering within a commercial environment and, ideally, in an educational settingexperience of managing a team
a sound and up to date knowledge of food safety proceduresan understanding of nutrition and, ideally, knowledge of government food standards for school meals
excellent communication skills, with the ability to deal with children, parents, school staff and colleagues confidently and professionally
Candidates must be prepared to obtain an enhanced DBS (formerly CRB) disclosure which is satisfactory to both Ashlyns and the school and be rechecked throughout their employment. All other safe guarding conditions including clearances for satisfactory references, medicals and right of work in the UK must be obtained.
